Paying it Forward
It was wonderful to have the adorable Vanessa Vallely discussing her life and her brilliant book “Heels of Steel” on the show. Vanessa decided to write her book as one of her forty things to do before she reached forty years old. Having left the corporate world in 2013 she decided to head the helm of two businesses We Are The City and We Are The City Careers which was first founded back in 2008.
Albeit Vanessa began life from humble beginnings, she always had a positive outlook, maintaining she had nothing to lose but everything to gain. She has an insatiable appetite for improvement, a gregarious character and is most definitely a true inspiration for any individual in business. Her philosophy embraces the importance of diversity and culture both within the business world and the broader community.
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
She is full of drive and passion and the common thread throughout her life is one of giving back or paying it forward. This is fully noticeable at the core of her networking business which has recently expanded into India and once again she can be found educating the local ladies how to empower the young women in their community not in Western mannerism but implementing what they have in their own communities to create sustainability.
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
Vanessa shared some of her key tips from her book.
Her key tips for career success are:
- Set yourself goals
- Learn every day
- Build strong relationships
- Find your inner voice
- Lead by example
- Impress your boss
- Networking for success
- Raise your profile
- Find your mentors, champions and coaches
- Give back
NB. Personally I think these apply to any individual who wants to get ahead in business or as an entrepreneur.
